Welcome to the website for Dreamworld Leadership Initiative for Girls where you will find regular updates and information on the work of this project. Please read a message from our founder, Benedicta Attoh. I was born in Nigeria and came to live in Ireland 2000. At the moment I do a good bit of shuttling between Nigeria and Ireland several times a year. My aim of setting up this project in 2009 is simple: as a former child bride who was forced into an early marriage at 15 years of age as second wife to a man 25 years my senior, I have firsthand experience and knowledge of the challenges and dangers facing millions of girls born into poor families not just in Nigeria but across Africa.
I want to demonstrate to the people of the world that one person can make a difference; I stand ready to act in a timely way for the welfare and educational empowerment of disadvantaged girls not just in Nigeria but across the West African sub region and the continent of Africa. Above all, I want to nurture a community and network of young female leaders across Africa particularly at a time when leadership is a major challenge for African countries. Please take a moment to browse our site and see ways you can get involved either as a donor or a mentoring volunteer. It is my sincere hope that you will return to our site often and stay involved with Dreamworld Leadership Initiative for Girls including joining our network of role models and mentoring volunteers. I believe that together we can build an even greater community of women leaders than what it is today, truly educating a girl means educating a community – I am a living proof! |
