Vodafone World of Difference
Monday, 24 May 2010 08:10
I applied for the Vodafone World of Difference programme this year to get a chance to work with Plan Ireland's "Because I am a Girl" campaign (http://www.plan.ie). This campaign aims to highlight the real issues facing girls in the world's poorest countries. As a former child bride I am very aware of those issues which include, trafficking, lack of access to education, female genital cutting, etc. Please pass on this request to all your friends on Facebook, you must be on Facebook to vote. We are three finalists and the one with the highest number of Facebook votes wins. Voting closes on 30th May.

Support Plan Ireland’s work in the developing world
Wednesday, 21 April 2010 09:15
Plan Ireland has teamed up with TV3 to help children living in extreme poverty in across 48 of world’s poorest countries. Together, they are looking for 300 child sponsors to come on board and support Plan’s work in the developing world.
Throughout April, Plan are asking TV3 viewers to sponsor a child with Plan Ireland and give children the chance at a better future.
Child sponsorship lets you see the difference you can make to a child's life and their community. Your money will be used to support vital water, food, health and education projects in the community where your sponsored child lives. By becoming a Sponsor today, you’re not just sending money, you’ll be giving your sponsored child and their whole community the chance of a better life. Money from child sponsorship goes to the community where your child is from and is used to support vital water, food, health and education projects. Child sponsorship costs just 73 cent a day, or €22 a month.
Across the world, girls face the double discrimination of their gender and age, leaving them suffering at the bottom of the social ladder. Girls are denied access to health services and education, and also face extremely high levels of violence, abuse, and harassment. More than 100 million girls under 18, some as young as 12, are expected to marry over the next decade.
Benedicta Attoh, founder of this project who was a child bride herself and now an Ambassador for Plan Ireland tells her own story:
New Dreamworld Leadership Initiative for Girls website is live
Saturday, 20 February 2010 12:13
Dreamworld Leadership Initiative for Girls is delighted to announce the launch of its website which will provide complete information and regular updates on the project. With a fresh and clean design, the site contains the following sections: About, Project News, Meet the Girls, Mission & Values, Our Board, Advisory Committee, Press, etc etc.
Benedicta Attoh, a Nigerian, Founder and Chairperson of Dreamworld Leadership Initiative for Girls said “I am very excited about this innovative project which clearly demonstrates that education is one way the African Diaspora can transfer social capital and contribute to international development in Africa to help reverse the scourge of ‘brain drain to brain gain'". She went on, "the website will also give an insight into the lives of our ‘dream girls’ as they progress on life’s journey from teenagers to young women leaders”.
Dundalk business altFIRE Technologies designed the new look and feel and developed a user-friendly interface that will be a lively record of our ‘dream girls’ lives and careers and will actively communicate and engage with peers, mentors and supporters in a dynamic and interactive way. The website will be a valuable resource and reference tool which offers a range of information relating to upcoming projects including speeches, documents, transcripts, photographs and videos released during meetings as well as links to useful websites and promises to connect Africa to its diaspora!
